That “Squeaky Clean” Feeling Might Be a Red Flag

That “Squeaky Clean” Feeling Might Be a Red Flag

The Halo Edit

Your pores are not supposed to feel squeaky clean.

That super tight, “squeaky clean” feeling after washing your face?

It might feel satisfying, but it doesn’t necessarily mean your skin is cleaner. Sometimes, that tight feeling simply means too much of your skin’s natural oil has been removed.

CLEAN ≠ TIGHT

So, what should clean skin actually feel like?

After cleansing, your skin should ideally feel:

✓ Fresh
✓ Comfortable
✓ Soft
✓ Clean, not tight

Your face does not need to feel dry or “squeaky” to be properly cleansed. A good cleansing routine should remove what your skin doesn’t need while still leaving it feeling comfortable.

Then why do my pores still feel clogged?

You can cleanse your face every morning and night and still experience:

Blackheads. Whiteheads. Rough texture. Oily T-zone. Congested-looking pores.

That doesn’t automatically mean you are washing your face incorrectly.

Throughout the day, your skin comes into contact with:

💧
Excess Sebum
☀️
Sunscreen
💄
Makeup
💦
Sweat
◌
Dead Skin
✦
Daily Buildup

Your daily cleanser helps remove surface buildup, but your skin can still feel congested from time to time — especially if you naturally have oilier skin.

The common mistake

Cleansing harder.

When skin starts feeling oily or clogged, the first instinct is often to cleanse more often, use something stronger or scrub harder.

Wash more → Stronger cleanser → Scrub harder → Strip more oil

But more isn’t always better.

“Your skin should feel clean — not punished.”

A simpler approach to pore care

You don’t need an aggressive routine. A simple, consistent approach is usually easier to maintain.

Daily

Gentle cleanse

Remove surface oil, sweat, sunscreen and makeup residue, then continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

When needed

Deeper reset

Add an extra cleansing step when skin feels oily, rough or congested. It does not need to be an everyday step.

Oily skin still needs gentle care.

One of the biggest skincare misconceptions is that oily skin needs to be completely dried out.

The goal is to keep excess oil and buildup under control while maintaining a comfortable skin barrier.

Clean gently.
Deep cleanse when needed.
Moisturise.
Protect during the day.

How do you know if you may be over-cleansing?

Pay attention to how your skin feels right after washing.

Tightness
Dry patches
Stinging
Redness
Flakiness

Your skin should feel clean — not punished.

This month’s Halo reminder

Your skin doesn’t need to feel tight to be clean.

Healthy-looking skin is about balance — not how squeaky it feels after washing.

Instead of constantly trying to cleanse more, focus on building a routine that your skin can comfortably follow every day.

Our weekly pore reset

When your usual cleanse doesn’t feel like enough.

For oily or congested skin, we like keeping deep cleansing as an occasional part of the routine rather than an everyday step.

Trio Bio Deep Cleansing Facial Mask can be used as a deeper pore-cleansing step when your skin feels like it needs more than your usual daily cleanse.

Think of it as maintenance — not punishment for having oily skin.

The takeaway

Clean skin should feel fresh, soft and comfortable.

Not tight.
Not stripped.
Not squeaky.

Sometimes, gentler really is better.
